Responsive Web Design

With today's surge of mobile devices, your web site must be written under the correct framework

 So what is Responsive Design?

In simple terms, it is a website coding framework that allow web pages to respond to different devices (a tablet or phone for example)  and display content depending on the device’s width. Your website or web pages should dynamically adjusts the page width and images to fit that of the device viewing the website. Allowing the site to display well no matter what size device is being used to view your website.

Responsive Design was developed as new devices with web browsers were brought to market.  Full size web pages viewed from a  Smartphone look terrible. Attempting to navigate around a full website is virtually impossible due to the page being reduced to fit within the device’s window. Especially if you have fat fingers like many of us. Solution: Responsive Design

So who should have a responsive designed web site?

Any and all businesses should have a Responsive designed website. As of this writing, nearly 50% of all website traffic is from devices other than regular computers with full size monitors. This means the chances are half the visitors to your web site or eCommerce store is viewing your site from a smartphone or tablet.

If you are like the rest of us, every visitor to your site is vital. So their experience should be the best possible and Responsive Design provides that.

Most new sites being developed are being done so under a Responsive Design framework. Older sites likely need to be converted to a Responsive Design. Of course this is not free and may be less expensive to simply redesign the site from scratch. Either way your site needs to be of a Responsive Design.

Not every page of your web site may work under a Responsive Design. But that is the beauty of it. Responsive Design allows us as web designers to actually turn areas of a site on and off depending on the device being used. Your web developer can substitute content and replace it with content that better suits a device. Or just remove items within your web pages altogether. In addition, web sites can be designed to only show a few pages for phones while displaying all pages for tablets.

The options are endless.

As technology develops and new devices come to market, web techniques will evolve. We do not know for sure what is coming next. But we do know something new is always right around the corner. Responsive Design has made our new Mobile Business lives better. At least until Apple releases their new devices.
